PETALING JAYA:
Former Kelantan deputy menteri besar Amar Nik Abdullah has been appointed as the state assembly’s speaker.

According to Sinar Harian, the PAS vice-president and Panchor assemblyman took his oath of office before the legislative assembly this morning.

Kok Lanas assemblyman Farid Zawawi will serve as deputy speaker.

Amar had served as deputy menteri besar since 2013, but was not reappointed to the post after the Aug 12 state election.

During campaigning for the state polls, he denied talk of a rift with PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan over the decision to propose a new Kelantan menteri besar and deputy menteri besar.

Amar said he had no problems being dropped as deputy menteri besar and that he never asked to be appointed to the post in the first place.
