PETALING JAYA:
Two men were arrested yesterday for allegedly insulting the royal institution through postings on social media.

Bukit Aman CID chief Shuhaily Zain said the 41-year-old owner and administrator of Facebook page “Flat Earth Malaysia” was detained in Kampung Sungai Kati, Ipoh, for a posting that allegedly insulted the Johor royal institution.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old owner and administrator of Facebook page “Iman Mustaqim” was arrested in Langkap, Perak, after he allegedly uploaded a post that insulted Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“The cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” said Shuhaily in a statement.

“Both have been remanded for three days until Sept 2 for further investigations under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.”

Shuhaily also urged the public not to speculate on the cases and to refrain from making statements that threaten the nation’s harmony and unity, especially on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.
