PETALING JAYA:
The prime minister’s directive that political party logos not be used on any form of government aid must be strictly adhered to, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said the rule applies to all ministers and MPs regardless of political affiliation, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“It was a timely reminder from the prime minister that government funds do not belong to individuals or political parties.

“So, there should only be one logo, the ‘Jata Negara’ (coat of arms),” he was quoted as saying.

Loke said he had always followed the practice of having only the coat of arms placed on mock cheques for funds given by the government.

“Like this (mock cheque with only the coat of arms). It is an allocation from the Seremban constituency service centre. It is not YB Loke’s service centre,” he told reporters, while holding up the mock cheque he presented at an event held at SMK Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim criticised the use of political party logos on mock cheques for government aid or in any other form of aid, saying it was practised by Perikatan Nasional (PN) when it was in Putrajaya.

However, he had also acknowledged that there have been “one or two cases” of such instances in the current unity government.

Recently, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urged local government development minister Nga Kor Ming to explain why the DAP logo was printed on mock donation cheques issued to several schools in Ipoh. The Pakatan Harapan logo was also printed on the mock cheque.

He demanded that Nga should clarify if the funds were from the government or the party.

Nga brushed off the matter, saying there was no issue as “what’s most important is that the schools receive the donation”.

When Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal also hit out at Nga over the matter, netizens pointed out that the former deputy national unity minister had presented a mock cheque with the PN logo printed on it to a school in February 2021.
