Top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah failed to qualify for the semifinals of the Badminton World Championships today after being defeated in the quarterfinals in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The pair lost to their rivals, China’s Zheng Shu Xiang-Zheng Yu, 21-17, 17-21, 19-21 Berita Harian reported.

It was their fourth defeat in four encounters between the two pairs.

Pearly-Thinaah, ranked 11th in the world, started strongly, winning the first game 21-17.

However, the Chinese pair, ranked 6th in the world, bounced back and won the second 21-17.

They went on to complete the victory by taking the decider 21-19.

The national mixed doubles team of Cheng Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also failed in their quest for the world title, falling 11-21, 11-21 to Japan’s world No 2 pair Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino.
