“If we remain passive, one day, Umno will be buried and we cannot let that happen,” the wing’s chief, Dr Akmal Saleh said.
He said this during a post-mortem of the election results here.
However, Akmal did not specify the changes he was referring to.
On Saturday, Umno only won 19 of the 108 seats contested in the six states. The party suffered its worst defeat in Terengganu, where it was unable to win any of the 32 seats it contested.
Akmal went on to say that if their pleas were ignored they “would have to do something”.
“If they do not do anything, we will be aggressive. This is our warning to them,” he said, referring to the leadership.
Akmal also said he had no qualms about stepping down from the post if the majority of the wing’s members felt that he was to blame for Umno’s performance in the polls.
He said he had no problem relinquishing the post if that would ensure the party’s survival.
“It is not about me, it is about Umno.”
