Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the nine witnesses included the man’s family, neighbours and the landlord, Harian Metro reported.
“We are completing the investigation papers and will refer them to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future,” he was quoted as saying.
On Sunday, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said an autopsy revealed that the man had died from a heart attack and not due to starvation.
Touching on allegations that the deceased starved to death after he was locked inside the condominium by his landlord, Fakhrudin said initial investigations found that only the iron grille gate was locked from the outside and that the main door could still be opened.
He said the deceased did not scream for help nor contact his family members after being locked in, with neighbours also failing to report any suspicious incidents to the police before his body was discovered.
“Our initial investigations found no criminal elements. However, we will request that an inquest be conducted after the investigation is completed.”
Yesterday, Harian Metro reported that the victim’s mother, Ang Seok Choo, 73, called for a detailed investigation to identify the actual cause of her 48-year-old son’s death.
She alleged that her son’s death was due to the landlord locking the condominium’s front grille gate over her son’s failure to pay RM5,000 in rental arrears.
