“I did not commit any wrongdoing from the perspective of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s laws or any other law, and this has been proven by the (court’s) decision today.
“It is evident to the general public what certain parties have done to persecute me,” he told reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.
Earlier, the court allowed his application to strike out the four charges of abusing his position to obtain bribes totalling RM232.5 million for Bersatu.
Justice Jamil Hussin said the charges did not clearly disclose any offence known to law, and were not sufficiently clear to enable Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, to prepare his defence.
Jamil also said the charges lacked sufficient particulars as required under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
On April 19, Muhyiddin applied for the court to annul the charges and acquit him. He also asked for all proceedings in the sessions court, where he was charged, to be stayed pending the outcome of the striking-out application.
Muhyiddin’s lead counsel, Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, said the defence team is confident that all the remaining charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla) against their client will be dismissed.
“In the next few days, the legal team will meet and discuss the three remaining charges. Most importantly, the main charges have fallen this morning,” he said.
Hisyam said Jamil’s decision was fair and just, given that the charges were “bad in law” and “seriously defective”.
“His Lordship agreed with us and was appreciative of the arguments,” he said.
