We accept the people’s choice, says Anwar

Unity coalition leader Anwar Ibrahim urges all citizens to unite and collectively strive for the nation's progress after tonight's state polls results.

PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim says the people’s decision must be accepted graciously.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Unity coalition leader Anwar Ibrahim says the alliance accepts the people’s choice following tonight’s results of the legislative assembly elections in six states.

“In a democratic system, we (must) respect the people’s decision and accept the outcome graciously,” said Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman and prime minister.

“After fighting so hard (during this time), this should be the time for all citizens and from all parties, win or lose, to stand united to uplift the country and defend the people’s fate,” he said at Umno headquarters at the World Trade Centre tonight.

Anwar also thanked the people for their unwavering support in helping the unity alliance in retaining power in the three states.

“This is (also) due to the achieved consensus and the support from our friends in Sarawak who didn’t contest, but provided us with the backing,” he said.

Unofficially, PH-BN has retained power in Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan while Perikatan Nasional has similarly won in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

Anwar said the unity government will continue to strive and serve in line with its aspiration for Malaysia Madani and the Madani economic policy. “On Monday, we will continue to work diligently and strive for a better Malaysia,” he said.
