No public holiday in Penang if PH-BN wins, says Chow

Caretaker Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow has no intention of following Selangor's lead on declaring a public holiday for the state.

Chow Kon Yeow had previously announced that he would not declare a public holiday on polling day tomorrow as it was a Saturday.
PETALING JAYA:
Caretaker Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow says he has no intention of declaring next Monday a public holiday if Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional win in the state election tomorrow.

“I won’t declare Monday a public holiday if PH-BN wins,” he was quoted as saying by China Press.

Earlier today, caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari promised to declare Monday a public holiday in the state if PH-BN wins.

Chow had previously stated that he had no plans of declaring a public holiday on polling day as it was a Saturday.

Similarly, Selangor also said it would not declare Aug 12 a public holiday, to avoid causing any unnecessary disruption to the private sector and getting blamed for “pleasing voters”.

In the 15th general election (GE15) last November, Penang declared a public holiday on Friday, Nov 18, the eve of polling day to allow voters enough time to return home and vote.
