No rifts, PAS-Bersatu ‘marriage’ solid, says Faizal

PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu has denied claims that cracks are showing in the “political” relationship between his party and PAS.

He said it was the relationship between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional that was actually on the rocks, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Faizal was responding to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who alleged that cracks were showing in the PAS and Bersatu cooperation, which will give PH-BN an advantage during the six state elections on Aug 12.

“These claims by Bang Mat (Mohamad) are inaccurate, a product of his dreams. Our relationship within PN is very solid,” he was quoted as saying..

“We don’t deny that before the nominations (for the state elections), we’ve had some isolated issues where the local branches hoped for different candidates to be endorsed by the top leadership.

“However, after the official unveiling of our list of candidates, our machinery at all levels have been working together closely to ensure our victory.”

On Monday, Mohamad claimed that the “marriage” between PAS and Bersatu would not last long as they were not able to see eye-to-eye in the six state elections.

He said PN had previously promised to give PAS the Ayer Hangat seat in Kedah, but it was eventually given to a Bersatu candidate, which angered some PAS members.

Mohamad also claimed that some Bersatu members rejected Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir’s candidacy for the Kota Siputeh seat, saying he was not a local.

‘We didn’t steal Umno members’

Meanwhile, Faizal denied that Bersatu had “stolen” Umno members to field them as PN candidates in the state elections, particularly its Jeram candidate, Harrison Hassan.

He said Harrison had long been with Bersatu despite holding the post of Sungai Buloh Umno deputy chief.

Harrison’s Umno membership had been automatically terminated after he was unveiled as a PN candidate for the state polls.

He is contesting against BN’s Jahaya Ibrahim for the Jeram seat in Selangor.
