Anwar brought Indonesian tycoon to Kedah for rare earth business, says Sanusi

The caretaker menteri besar says the duo visited Kedah a few weeks before the state assembly was dissolved.

Sanusi Nor said any party possessing expertise may apply to mine rare earth elements in Kedah, provided it is conducted properly and benefits the state.
PADANG TERAP:
Caretaker menteri besar Sanusi Nor has claimed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim once introduced an Indonesian tycoon to the prospect of mining for rare earth elements (REE) in Kedah.

Sanusi identified the individual as Riza Chalid and suggested that home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s recent attacks on the issue may relate to this matter.

“I recall that Pak Riza met various people to apply for REE mining land,” he said at a ceramah in Pedu last night.

He said Anwar and Riza came a few weeks before the dissolution of the Kedah state assembly.

He also claimed that Riza had expressed his intention to provide hundreds of cattle for sacrifice during Hari Raya Aidiladha, but he rejected the offer.

“Somebody contacted me, informing me that Pak Riza wanted to give hundreds of cows (for sacrifice), but I refused because it was close to the elections. I was afraid the cows may be considered a bribe,” he said.

Sanusi also said he is open to any party possessing expertise applying for REE mining, provided it is conducted properly and benefits Kedah.

“Whether it’s Anwar or Saifuddin, anyone is welcome,” he said.
