No M’sians involved in fireworks warehouse blast in Narathiwat, says Wisma Putra

Thai authorities said the explosion yesterday afternoon happened at Mundok Market, a popular shopping destination for Malaysians.

Nine people died while 114 people were reportedly injured following the explosion caused by a fire at a warehouse storing fireworks.

KUALA LUMPUR:- There have been no reports so far of any Malaysian being involved in a fireworks warehouse explosion in Mundok, Sungai Kolok district, Narathiwat, Thailand yesterday, according to the foreign affairs ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said that based on early reports, the explosion was caused by a fire at a warehouse storing fireworks and that it resulted in nine deaths while 114 people were reportedly injured.

“The consulate general of Malaysia in Songkhla is in close contact with the local authorities. Any latest development regarding this incident will be notified from time to time,” Wisma Putra said.

Narathiwat governor Sanan Pongaksorn was reported to have said that the explosion at 3.30pm (local time) happened at Mundok Market, a popular shopping destination for Malaysians.
