PETALING JAYA:
Nik Abduh, son of the late PAS spiritual adviser Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, was excluded as an election candidate by a Kelantan leader, according to Nik Abduh’s uncle.

Nik Din Nik Mat, brother of Nik Aziz, said his nephew, a former MP for Bachok, was supposed to be a candidate in the current state assembly elections.

Nik Aziz was often known by the abbreviation TGNA.

In a video clip making the rounds on social media, Nik Din claimed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had personally requested that Nik Abduh be named as a candidate in the state elections.

However his candidacy was rejected by PAS vice-president Amar Nik Abdullah, who is also the caretaker Kelantan deputy menteri besar, Nik Din said.

“So I am pleading with those watching the video, including voters in Panchor, not to back Amar. Let him lose,” the video clip shows him saying.

Amar is in a straight fight for the Panchor state seat. His rival is a distant cousin, Syed Alidustur Syed Zain, of Pakatan Harapan. In the 2018 general election, Amar had retained the seat with a 7,288-vote majority.

FMT is contacting the PAS leadership and Amar for comments.

Yesterday, Berita Harian quoted PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying that Nik Abduh was not nominated as a candidate as the latter had rejected two seats that were offered to him.

The daily also quoted Nik Abduh as saying that he had accepted the party’s decision.
