Salahuddin was with PAS from 1983 until 2015. He left the party to co-found Amanah with Mohamad Sabu.

He died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar at 9.23pm after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage on Friday. He was 61.

“He has sowed the seeds of hope for the future of this country with his deeds and leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said the nation had lost a great son. “Salahuddin was most approachable and down-to-earth, a man who could look after the interests of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.”
