Tok Mat, 3 ex-MBs among BN bigwigs contesting in state polls

KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan is among the top Barisan Nasional leaders who will be contesting in the coming six state elections on Aug 12.

Mohamad, who is the defence minister and Rembau MP, will defend his Rantau state seat.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki also announced that Kedah BN chief Mahdzir Khalid, a former education minister, will contest for the Pedu seat.

Mahdzir, a former Umno vice-president, is also a former Kedah menteri besar.

Meanwhile, former Terengganu menteris besar Ahmad Said and Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman will be contesting in Kijal and Seberang Takir.

Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias, who is rumoured to be a possible menteri besar candidate, will contest for the Pertang seat, while Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin will vie for the Gombak Setia seat.

Asyraf also announced that former youth and sports minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican will run in Bertam.

Among other notable candidates include Suhakam commissioner Hasnal Rezua Merican Habib Merican, who will be contesting in Kuang.

Meanwhile, Najib Isa, the son of former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, will contest for the Bagan Pinang seat.
