The party’s secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook, said Ng’s performance as Selangor DAP vice-chairman was the reason he was once again nominated by Pakatan Harapan (PH) to contest the seat, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Loke added that he would nominate the 53-year-old for a state executive councillor post should Pakatan Harapan successfully form the state government.
“Ng has served as Sekinchan state assemblyman for four terms. He has played various roles, being in the opposition, a backbencher and a state assembly speaker. There is only one role left for him now,” he was quoted as saying at the Sekinchan DAP dinner last night.
This is the party’s first candidate announcement for the Aug 12 state elections.
Separately, Selangor DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, who also attended the event, said the upcoming elections in six states would serve as an indicator of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government’s performance over the past eight months.
“We must understand that this state election is where we will demonstrate whether the public is satisfied with the unity government or not.
“We must win to send a message to our opponents that the unity government will remain. We must come out in high numbers and ensure a strong victory,” he said.
