PETALING JAYA:
A former Selangor assemblyman from PKR has come under fire for allegedly making a racial slur against Parti Sosialis Malaysia and Sivaranjani Manickam, its candidate for the Meru state assembly seat.

In a Twitter post, PSM secretary-general Sivarajan Arumugam shared a screenshot of a comment by former Kota Anggerik assemblyman, Najwan Halimi.

He had remarked “Indian estate party” to a news report about Sivaranjani of PSM being fielded to contest the Meru state assembly seat.

In response, Sivarajan said in a tweet: “If this is your comment @NajwanHalimi, this is a racist remark against @partisosialis candidate! Another hypocrite in @pakatanharapan_ exposed! Do we need such a wakil rakyat?”

Sivaranjani is PSM’s first candidate named for the state elections on Aug 12. Muda and Amanah are also contesting the seat, which was held by Fakhrulrazi Mokhtar for two terms.

FMT is seeking comment from Najwan.
