Disabled man charged with murdering father

The magistrates’ court orders for the 22-year-old accused to be sent to Permai Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

BENTONG:
A 22-year-old man who was charged with murdering his father was ordered to be sent to Permai Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Magistrate Qasiratul Jannah Usmani Othman made the order today following a request by the prosecution, which was conducted by deputy public prosecutor S Punitha.

Kan Kong Chen, a person with disabilities, was charged with murdering his 64-year-old father, Kan Kok Chong, at Flat Purnama, Taman Gemilang here between June 22 and 24.

The accused nodded when the charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, was read to him.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The magistrate set Aug 3 for mention.
