MELAKA:
The education ministry is looking into providing allocations to schools to develop combat sports, including wushu, silat and karate.

Deputy education minister Lim Hui Ying said “the matter has just been decided” and allocations for combat sports might be provided in the ministry’s forthcoming budget.

Speaking to reporters at the close of a wushu championship at Bukit Serindit here, Lim said combat sports have been listed as part of the school co-curriculum.

The education ministry would work with the youth and sports ministry to conduct a special training session for combat sports at school level to ensure exposure to students.

A recent sports development committee meeting decided that combat sports should be classified as a sports activity instead of as a uniformed body in schools.
