However, the executive councillors would only be allowed to use the vehicles for official functions, he said.
“But on the eve of nomination day, we will stop using the official cars. They will be handed over to the drivers, who will bring them to the depots,” he told reporters at a press conference in Komtar.
Chow also said the caretaker government could still announce new projects if these had been decided on prior to the dissolution of the state assembly.
“If there was anything that had been decided by the exco, be it a year, six months or even a week ago, it can still be announced during the caretaker government’s period.
“But there are no big matters that need to be announced as we have tried to settle them before the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.”
Chow was responding to electoral reform group Bersih, which earlier today called upon all caretaker governments in Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu not to announce any major decisions or projects in the run-up to the state elections.
Bersih chairman Thomas Fann said a caretaker government’s function was to maintain the administration’s “basic operations” until a new government was formed after the election.
Earlier today, Chow obtained consent from state governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak for the state assembly to be dissolved to make way for the state election.
