Hamidah Muhamad, 47, was charged with 77 counts of cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
She is accused of causing her four victims a total of RM350,000 in losses, Sinar Harian reported.
Hamidah pleaded not guilty to all charges.
In the first set of 38 charges brought under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Hamidah was accused of swindling siblings Razhiyah, Robiah and Faridah Salleh, and another individual by deceiving them into purchasing a house and a tract of land at Mukim Assam Kumbang in Taiping, and causing them to deposit money into a bank account.
She is alleged to have caused the three siblings and Efendi Zainuddin to suffer losses amounting to RM200,000 between 2021 and 2022.
The charges were read before magistrate R Prabakaran, who allowed Hamidah bail of RM12,000 in two sureties and ordered her to surrender her passport pending the disposal of the case.
The mother of four also claimed trial before magistrate Nur Atiqah Sapari in a different courtroom to another set of 39 charges for cheating the same trio of siblings and causing them to suffer an additional RM150,000 in losses.
Section 420 of the Penal Code provides that whoever cheats and dishonestly induces a victim to deliver any property to any person shall, if convicted, be punished with imprisonment of between one and 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
Both courts fixed case management for July 31.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Amalina Harun prosecuted, while lawyer S Ingaradivel appeared for Hamidah, according to The Star.
In GE15, Hamidah was named as the BN candidate for the state seat of Jelapang in Perak. She is from Makkal Sakthi, a party that is considered “Friends of BN”.
