Amanah leader brushes off division’s demand for Selangor seat

Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari says the statement by the Hulu Selangor youth chief is his personal opinion.

Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari said seat negotiations at the committee level have concluded and the results have been presented to the leadership.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari has dismissed the demands made by the party’s Hulu Selangor division for a seat in the upcoming state election.

Speaking to reporters after officiating an event, Adly said the unity government had its own “formula” for seat allocations in all six states.

“That is just his personal opinion,” he said, referring to Hulu Selangor Amanah’s statement yesterday where it disagreed with Umno’s intention to contest the Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali seats in Selangor.

The division’s youth chief, Abdul Mun’im Roslin, also demanded that one of the two seats be given to it, given its track record in serving the people.

Adly also said he was one of those involved in the coalition government’s seat negotiation committee.

“Seat negotiation talks at the committee level have concluded and the results have been presented to the leadership,” he said.

In yesterday’s statement, Mun’im said Umno’s claim of Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali as their traditional seats did not guarantee that Barisan Nasional can win there again.

Instead, he emphasised the importance of one’s capability to form a united front when deciding seat distribution.

Umno’s Rosni Sohar is the incumbent representative for the Hulu Bernam seat, currently serving her second term.

Batang Kali, previously an Umno stronghold, was won by Bersatu in the 2018 general election when it was still part of Pakatan Harapan.
