PETALING JAYA:
National shuttler Lee Zii Jia plans to take a temporary break from badminton after his second first-round loss in as many tournaments today.

“I think for now I will probably temporarily quit badminton,” he said in an interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“I don’t know how long I will take, but I will quit badminton for a while until I get motivated again. I will take a break and rest for a while.”

This comes after the 2021 All England champion’s defeat to India’s Lakhsya Sen in the first round of the Indonesian Open 2023 today.

The 25-year-old, who dropped out of the world’s top 10 yesterday, lost 21-17, 21-13 to Sen.

Last month, Lee went down to Taiwan’s Lin Chun-Yi 19-21, 21-16, 15-21 in the second round of the Malaysian Open 2023.

Asked about qualifying for next year’s Paris Olympics, the World No 11 said he might stop playing tournaments for now, adding that his priority was to regain his passion to play on the court again.

“I have been considering this for quite long. It’s too much for me on the court. I can’t concentrate 100%,” he said.

“It will be good for me to take a break.”
