Zuki said Wan Suraya’s appointment takes effect tomorrow, Bernama reported.
She takes over the post which has been left vacant for over three months after her predecessor Nik Azman Nik Abdul retired on Feb 23.
Wan Suraya is currently the CEO of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity. She previously served as the secretary-general for the national unity ministry from 2020 to 2021, and for the entrepreneur development and cooperatives ministry from 2018 to 2020.
She was also investment, trade and industry ministry deputy secretary-general from 2016 to 2018.
Last week, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) urged Putrajaya to expedite the appointment of the auditor-general (A-G).
PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin was also reported to have said that the government should not appoint a former ministry secretary-general to the post.
In April, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had proposed a candidate for the A-G role to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
