PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry will re-table the Control of Tobacco Product and Smoking Bill, commonly known as the GEG bill, next Monday for its first reading.

Its minister, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, revealed this in dismissing claims of uncertainty regarding the timeline of when the Bill would be tabled, Malay Mail Online reported.

“We have even received a date of when the Bill will be tabled for its first reading, which is June 12,” she was quoted as saying to reporters after a briefing on the Bill today.

The revised law seeks to ban the use, purchase and sale of cigarettes and vape products to those born after 2007.

It was revised after taking into consideration the recommended amendments by the parliamentary special select committee last year.

In February, Zaliha said the government wanted to enforce the GEG law in 2024.
