KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have classified the death of a businessman involved in the 1MDB and SRC International investigations as “sudden death”.

Bernama reported Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan as saying that 56-year-old Kee Kok Thiam died because of “health factors” on Monday.

Kee was an aide to fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho (Jho Low), the alleged mastermind behind the 1MDB and SRC International scandals.

“Police have classified this case as sudden death and there are no criminal elements,” Hussein was quoted as saying.

Kee’s lawyers from Valen, Oh & Partners said their client had died of a stroke.

He was being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving funds swindled from 1MDB and SRC International.

He disappeared in 2018 but reappeared at Terminal 2, Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 3.30am on May 3. He was called to the MACC headquarters the same day.

It was reported that Kee had revealed that he had met with Jho Low and other 1MDB fugitives – including Eric Tan, Casey Tang, Geh Choh Heng and Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil – in Macau.
