City councillor Terence Tan said this happened during a meeting about the one-stop centre (OSC) and procedural matters.
The OSC had been engaged in the approval process for a plot of land on Lorong Sultan, slated for development.
Tan said the OSC had rejected the developer’s application last year because it was requesting a larger plot than was permitted. The developer had then appealed the decision.
“The Selangor government later released uniform guidelines (for plot ratio), which is good because it streamlined the process,” he told FMT.
Following that, Tan said the developer had submitted another application to the OSC for consideration, in tandem with its appeal.
However, three out of five of the OSC councillors asked the developer to withdraw the appeal first before the new application could be considered.
“The developer did not withdraw the appeal, while mayor Azhan Amir was pushing for its approval,” he said.
In a statement released this evening, the 19 councillors said they walked out because the dissenting views in the OSC were not respected.
They said they did not want the council to make any mistakes that were contrary to the principle of law.
Tan said the councillors did not have a problem with the project in principle. They only wanted the correct procedures to be followed.
