PETALING JAYA:
The old Employees Provident Fund (EPF) building located at Jalan Gasing here has caught fire again.

Videos of flames and thick smoke emerging from the six-storey building next to the Federal Highway began circulating on social media at about 10.45am.

The building had been left vacant since a February 2018 fire. No casualties or injuries were reported then.

The 63-year-old office building was scheduled to reopen in late 2024 as a state-of-the-art senior living facility.

In a brief statement, a fire and rescue department spokesman said no casualties were reported.

It said it received an emergency call at about 10.40am, and firemen from seven stations arrived at the scene about five minutes later.

The fire, which damaged the fourth and fifth floors, was put out at 11.08am.

Meanwhile, the EPF confirmed that the building is currently empty and unoccupied, adding that no injuries have been reported at this time.

“Further details will be provided when available,” it said in a statement.

The cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
