
Asked to confirm the proposal, Loke said he has not been informed of one.
“Where did you get that news from? I have not received any information on this,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Maritime Law and Business Conference 2023 at a hotel here today.
He said the appointment of the KTMB chairman falls under the purview of the finance ministry.
“So far, I have not been informed (by the finance ministry) of any such proposal,” she said.
On May 6, China Press reported that MCA had decided to propose Wee as the new chairman of KTMB.
If the appointment is confirmed, Wee would be the first MP from MCA to be given a position in the unity government. He was previously deputy plantation industries and commodities minister under Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.
Currently, the KTMB chairman is Penang Umno chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir.
Separately, Loke said he will meet Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki on Tuesday over misconduct reports that are said to have been ignored by the road transport department (JPJ).
Asked for updates on the Penang light rail transit (LRT) project, he said the finance ministry has called for a meeting with MRT Corp some time next week.
He said the relevant ministries and agencies will later meet with the finance ministry to look at the funding model and make a decision.
