Alex Lau, 32, and Lai Meng Sien, 34, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them before magistrate Nur Farahain Roslan.

They were charged with a common intention to commit the act under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they face a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both.

Lau and Lai are alleged to have caused the explosion in front of a shop at the Tiara Mutiara 1 condominium on Jalan Puchong at Jalan Klang Lama at 6am on May 2.

They are said to have modified PVC pipes into an improvised explosive device (IED) which they triggered remotely to cause the blast.

Lawyer Izhar Ahmad Azmi, who represented both accused, pleaded for a low bail amount. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Hafiezah Mohamed Fauzi appeared for the prosecution.

The court allowed bail of RM3,000 in one surety for each accused and ordered them to report to the nearest police station every month until disposal of the case.

It also fixed June 22 for submission of documents by the prosecution to the defence.
