Isam, who is also Tampin MP, said he wanted to fully focus on his parliamentary constituency.
“I pray that my friends will win in the upcoming (state) elections as I will not be contesting. If the (state assembly) Speaker (Zulkefly Omar) is interested, he can go ahead (and contest there).
“But before that you have to propose (yourself as a candidate). The first condition is to join Umno,” he said when speaking at the adjournment session of the fifth session of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly here.
He also expressed his appreciation to menteri besar Aminuddin Harun and the state leadership for carrying out their responsibilities well throughout this session.
Isam was optimistic that the state would continue to be led by the unity government in the coming session.
He won the Gemencheh state seat on a Barisan Nasional ticket in the 13th and 14th general elections (GE13 and GE14) in 2013 and 2018, respectively.
Isam stood as a candidate for the Tampin parliamentary seat in GE15, winning with a majority of 1,276 votes, over three other candidates, namely Pakatan Harapan’s Faiz Fadzil, Perikatan Nasional’s Abdul Halim Abu Bakar, and Pejuang’s Zamani Ibrahim.
First-time Senaling assemblyman Adnan Abu Hassan, also of BN, then interrupted the sitting, stating that it might be his last speech as an assemblyman.
“If this is my last speech as an assemblyman, I wish to express my thanks. We have built good rapport with all the people’s representatives, and the issues presented to the government were discussed well,” said Adnan, who is also Kuala Pilah MP.
