It’s fake – viral video of ‘violent attack at Segambut station’

Sentul police chief says the footage is from an incident that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last month.

In the video, a man is jumped by six assailants after withdrawing money from an ATM.
PETALING JAYA:
A video clip supposedly of a man being attacked at Segambut railway station is fake, says rail operator KTMB.

The video had been spread on social media with claims it showed a man being robbed by six men after withdrawing money at an ATM in the station, with viewers warned to be careful in the area.

However, KTMB posted a notice on Facebook telling customers the video is fake and warned against spreading misinformation. “The public is requested not to spread this sort of fake news on social media.”

Meanwhile, Sentul district police chief Beh Eng Lai said the 41-second video clip titled “Segambut. Public transport at night” was in fact footage from an incident in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last month, Bernama reported.

In a statement last night, he said the clip has been shared by irresponsible parties claiming it happened in Kuala Lumpur.

Beh also advised the public not to easily believe or spread unverified news so as not to cause alarm among the community.

“Stern action will be taken against individuals who violate the law,” he said.
