E Parameiswary said the investigation was a waste of time for the police as well as for her.

She is being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) for allegedly not notifying police 10 days before the date of an assembly.

“The police asked me questions for which they already knew the answers,” she told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here today.

She had earlier been summoned to appear at the station.

“Everything was discussed with the police in a meeting on April 27.”

Parameiswary said the event went on smoothly and was also monitored by human rights group Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram).

About 1,000 representatives from 87 NGOs and political parties converged in the city centre last Monday, where they urged the government to enforce the implementation of the RM1,500 minimum wage on all employers.

It was among nine demands raised during the rally.

Parameiswary’s lawyer, Y Kohila, said the police should focus on solving crime rather than wasting their time investigating the rally.

“The police were there during the peaceful rally to maintain traffic order,” she said. “They can charge her if she had committed an offence.”
