MyEG gets ‘non-exclusive’ 3-year extension for JPJ services

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says MyEG will only be one of the platforms providing JPJ's online services.

MyEG’s three-year extension in 2020 for e-government services was set to expire on May 22 this year.
PETALING JAYA:
Putrajaya has given MyEG Services Bhd a “non-exclusive” three-year extension for the e-government services it provides to the road transport department (JPJ).

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said it was “made very clear” to the company that the non-exclusive contract meant that MyEG would only be one of the platforms providing JPJ’s online services.

“So if there are other e-government service providers who want to provide (their services) to the government, we can consider them.

“We’re allowing (MyEG) to be a gateway for the government, as one of the options for the public to renew their licence or road tax, and so forth,” he told a press conference.

MyEG had been given a three-year extension by the transport ministry in 2020, with the contract set to expire on May 22 this year.

The company had inked a concession agreement with Putrajaya for the electronic delivery of driver and vehicle registrations, and licensing and summons services, among others.

In February, the company saw RM2.17 billion wiped off its market capitalisation after two announcements, one by Loke and the other by the immigration department.

Loke announced that private vehicle owners no longer needed to display road tax stickers on their vehicles or carry a physical copy of their driving licence while the then immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud announced that all immigration services would be fully placed back under government management by 2025.
