Magistrate Sharifah Amrida Shasha Amir Shariffuddin issued the remand order on the 51-year-old suspect, which starts today, Berita Harian reported.

The suspect was arrested by police in Ibok, about 18km from the crime scene yesterday afternoon.

He was trying to intercept his mother-in-law’s car as she was heading to the Chukai police station, when he hit police officer Marina Ahmad, who was on a motorcycle, on her way to work at the same police station.

She was reported to have broken her left hand in the accident.

Kemaman district police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the chase happened following a quarrel between the suspect and his mother-in-law over matters relating to inheritance.

The suspect does not have a prior criminal record.

He is being investigated for dangerous driving under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and committing mischief.
