PUTRAJAYA:
The government will look into improving the well-being of civil servants if the tax revenue increases next year.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this includes increasing their wages, bonuses and benefits.

“Give us a year, if there’s an increasing trend in tax collection, the utmost priority will be given to civil servants.

“We will also expedite bonuses, health and education benefits,” he said at a Labour Day celebration at Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Anwar admitted that the current remuneration package for civil servants remained unsatisfactory, while certain people and parties have robbed the country’s wealth and ignored the plight of the ordinary folk.

“When we took over the government, the economic situation was severe, partly due to this ‘robbery’.

“If we want to increase tax revenue, we have to fight and eliminate corruption,” he said.
