PETALING JAYA:
Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor got tongues wagging when he appeared at the federal government’s Hari Raya open house in the state after having previously criticised the event for being politically motivated.

“Today is a day of peace,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying after reporters sought his response at the Malaysia Madani Raya Aidilfitri open house, which featured Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Kedah’s Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

Sanusi had said yesterday that he had decided to attend the event after Sultan Sallehuddin consented to be present. Protocol requires the menteri besar to accompany the ruler at official events.

Sanusi had previously accused Putrajaya of staging the open houses in six states as election campaign events which should not proceed. The six states are due to hold elections to the state assembly after June.

He said Putrajaya was going against its own stance of doing away with massive events to cut costs.
