PETALING JAYA:
A man who was imprisoned for hurting his wife last year has been slapped with a similar offence at the Kuala Pilah magistrates’ court.

According to Harian Metro, 46-year-old S Ragubalan pleaded guilty after the charge was read out in Tamil by a translator before magistrate Saiful Sayoti today.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife by punching her in the face, hitting her head on the floor, and causing injuries to her face, forehead, the back of her head and neck.

The offence was committed at a house in Gemas, Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, on Monday at 9.15am.

Deputy public prosecutor Yap Tsu Sheng told the court that Ragubalan had been charged with committing a similar offence on Nov 3, 2022 and had pleaded guilty. He was then sentenced to a day in prison and fined RM1,500.

Ragubalan, who was not represented by a lawyer, asked the court to allow him bail as he suffered from diabetes and had just started a new job two months ago.

The court dismissed his request since the Penal Code states that it is not a bailable offence and fixed May 8 for case mention.
