Hashimy Suratman has not given up hope on being reunited with his brother, Darwis Sumala, who had gone missing in Kuala Lumpur in 2006, when Hashimy was 19.
Darwis, a Sarawakian, was 22 years old then and was residing in a house at Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur, while working for City Hall (DBKL).
“I had filed a police report and checked his records with numerous agencies like EPF, the national registration department, the road transport and immigration departments, and the banks.
“But there has been no new information,” Hashimy, now 36, told FMT.
It has been nearly two decades since, but Darwis’ mysterious disappearance continues to perplex his family as he had no issues with them nor at work. He was a contract staff at DBKL at the time.
Hashimy, who hails from Kuching, recalled receiving the news about Darwis’ disappearance from his friend. Multiple attempts to contact Darwis had failed, prompting their father to fly to Kuala Lumpur to look for him.
“But it was too late,” he said. “We believe my brother ran away from home, bringing with him a bag of clothes and a file containing certificates.
“But we don’t know why he did that. He had no problems with our family,” he said of his brother, the third of four siblings.
Hashimy had taken to Facebook two days ago in hopes that social media would be able to help him reunite with Darwis. He vowed to continue looking for his brother “as long as I live”.
“Wherever you are, please come home. I’m waiting for you. Mum is waiting for you.
“Please come home while she’s still alive. Dad passed away (last year),” he said in his posting.
Hashimy appealed to anyone with any information on his brother’s whereabouts to contact him at 012-2509005.
