Roadworks halted for Aidilfitri to ensure smooth balik kampung

Works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi says no roadworks will be carried out on highways for the next 20 days, beginning from today.

No roadworks will be carried out from April 18 to May 7.
GOMBAK:
No roadworks will be carried out on the 33 highways nationwide from today onwards to ensure a smooth trip for commuters returning home for the Aidilfitri festivities.

The stop-work order will last till May 7, works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said.

“It has been agreed that no maintenance work will be carried out for 20 days,” he said at a press conference here.

Nanta also welcomed the free Rahmah Toll initiative – a four-day toll exemption for all road users in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

He said it was the first time that Putrajaya had rolled out such an initiative.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the toll exemption, which will run from April 19 to 21, and on April 24, on all highways.
