PUTRAJAYA:
The 2,000 applicants for public service vehicle (PSV) e-hailing licences in the Klang Valley can expect to get their permits after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said all the applications were from e-hailing service provider Grab.

“We’ll try to clear their applications within a week after the Raya break,” he told a press conference after presenting licences to 300 drivers, including 210 with disabilities, today.

They are the first batch of drivers to receive their licences after the abolition of the theory test on April 10 for those applying for a vocational driving licence.

Loke said the drivers had been issued digital licences in place of the physical copies and their data was available in the road transport department’s MySikap database.

He said Grab was currently gathering more data for the transport ministry to help clear the backlog of applications, adding that other e-hailing operators were welcomed to do the same.

On a separate matter, the minister said there were no updates on the Kulim International Airport (KXP) project given that no meetings have been held to discuss it.

Last month, Loke said the National Airport Strategic Plan study on the KXP project had yet to be completed.

Neither had the ministry received an application to build an airport for the Kedah Aerotropolis project, he added.
