Man arrested over fire which destroyed motorcycles outside KLCC

Police have arrested a man who is suspected of being involved in a fire that damaged 13 motorcycles and four electric scooters near Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the 34-year-old suspect was apprehended a few hours after the incident occurred at around 4.03pm yesterday.

“The suspect will be remanded for six days. The motive and cause of the fire are still being investigated,” he said in a statement.

“Police have also seized a Honda RS motorcycle, a set of motorcycle keys, a helmet, a shirt, a pair of trousers, an arm sleeve, a bag, a watch and a lighter.”

Noor Dellhan said the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire, which carries a maximum of 14 years imprisonment and a fine, if found guilty.

He added that police have so far received 10 reports from the owners of the 13 motorcycles and four electric scooters affected in the incident.

Yesterday, nine motorcycles and four electric scooters were destroyed in a fire at an outdoor parking bay near Suria KLCC. Another four motorcycles were slightly damaged.

Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department chief Iqbal Khan Malek Khan said they received a call at 3.46pm and dispatched a team of 15 firemen to the scene to put out the flames.
