Arrest of minister’s aide proof of PM’s fight against graft, says Fahmi

Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil says Putrajaya will not interfere with MACC's probe.

SERI KEMBANGAN:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation which has led to the arrest of an aide to the human resources minister reflects the government’s commitment to eradicate corruption, says communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil.

“The arrest of V Sivakumar’s aide is proof that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is committed to getting rid of corruption within the government.

“We will allow MACC to carry out its investigation and, if (the accused is) brought to court, we will abide by the due court process,” he told reporters at an event here today.

Fahmi said individuals slapped with corruption charges have to bear the consequences of their own actions.

Yesterday, FMT reported that one of Sivakumar’s senior officers was detained by MACC along with a foreign worker recruitment agent. It was reported that several other ministry officials were also arrested.

It is believed that their arrests were in connection with an investigation linked to the recruitment of foreign workers.
