PETALING JAYA:
An ex-political secretary to former Melaka chief minister Idris Haron has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM408,736 between 2017 and 2018.

Rosli Hasan, who has a “Datuk” title, was charged in the Melaka sessions court with accepting a bribe of RM323,736 in the form of renovation works for his wife’s house in Taman Pokok Mangga.

The other 11 charges are linked to bribes he allegedly accepted in the form of credit card payments totalling RM85,000 in 2017.

According to Bernama, Rosli is alleged to have accepted the bribes to help a company secure a contract for the design and construction of a mosque, hall, shoplots and garbage dump in Bachang.

The contract was worth RM5.28 million.

The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

If found guilty, Rosli faces a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of the bribes, whichever is higher.

Sessions court judge Elesabet Paya Wan set the case for further mention on May 16.
