PUTRAJAYA:
The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has been asked to solve the shortage in the supply of chicken in several areas immediately to ensure Hari Raya preparations are not affected.

Agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu, who spoke to the media after his ministry’s bubur lambuk distribution programme here, said he had yet to receive a report on how many areas were experiencing a shortage in supply.

“Temporary shortages in some places before the festive season happen sometimes but the ministry guarantees that the food supply is sufficient, especially for the eight main commodities, namely eggs, chicken, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, rice and fresh milk,” he said.

Earlier, Utusan Malaysia reported that traders at Pasar Besar Klang were worried over insufficient chicken supply a week before Hari Raya as there was high demand from consumers.

One of the traders said he had ordered 100 chickens from the supplier but received only 80.

The media also reported that supply problems were expected to hit the northern states, especially Kedah.
