MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the matter when contacted by FMT.
Azlan served as menteri besar from 2013 to 2022.
Earlier, Utusan Malaysia reported that Azlan would likely be charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for filing false claims.
Quoting a source, the daily reported that the former Perlis Umno chief would also be facing money laundering charges on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a source told FMT that Azlan would be slapped with five charges for making false claims totalling RM1 million between 2013 and 2017.
Azlan was arrested by MACC in Kangar at 2pm when he went to give his statement, the source said.
The source said Azlan was still in MACC’s custody and it was unclear if he would be released tonight or taken directly to court tomorrow.
The former three-term Bintong assemblyman failed to defend his seat in the 15th general election in a six-corner contest.
He also lost his bid to retain his position as the Kangar Umno chief in last month’s party elections.
