Selangor parking app pays off with 38% rise in fees

State exco member Ng Sze Han says the number of compound notices also went up slightly after the online system was introduced a year ago.

PETALING JAYA:
Parking fees collected by seven local authorities in Selangor have gone up by an average of 38% since a smartphone parking app came into use a year ago.

State executive councillor Ng Sze Han said the highest increase in parking revenue was in Klang (59%) followed by Kajang (49%), Shah Alam ( 48%), Selayang (37%) and Ampang Jaya (35%). The lowest increase was in Petaling Jaya (23%) and Subang Jaya (18%).

“The average increase in the state was 38%,” he told FMT.

He said 98% of motorists in the seven towns used the smartphone app to pay their parking charges, which he said was beyond their expectations.

Only 0.5% of the motorists made their payments at KK Mart outlets while another 1.3% paid at Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) agents, mostly for monthly passes.

There was also a small increase of 6,000 parking compound notices issued in these areas, with a total of 349,000 issued since March 2022.

Ng said the parking system was efficient and cost-effective as there was no longer a need to print parking coupons.
