Pahang opposition leader Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also suggested that a briefing and discussion is held before the bill is tabled.
“I would like to stress the need for this bill to be tabled in the upcoming (state assembly) meeting, even though so far, there are still some states that have not done so,” he said in a Bernama report.
“I guarantee that (the opposition) will support any bill which brings about political stability, improves the people’s welfare and results in development to the state.”
Tuan Ibrahim said the opposition agrees that the state government needs to align itself with the anti-hopping law at the federal level which came into force on Oct 5 last year.
However, the Cheka assemblyman said the opposition has yet to receive notice about the dates of the next state assembly meeting.
On Monday, menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state government is ready to table an anti-hopping bill in the state assembly if the opposition agrees to support it.
The support of the opposition is necessary to obtain a two-thirds majority vote. Following the last general election, Barisan Nasional (BN) obtained 17 seats, Perikatan Nasional also 17, and Pakatan Harapan eight.
The state government, comprising BN and PH with a total of 25 seats, enjoys a simple majority.
