It is his first official visit to Cambodia, and his seventh overseas visit since becoming prime minister last year.

The visit is on the invitation of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, said foreign minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Anwar will be granted an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni and will witness the signing of two memorandums of understanding regarding the recruitment of Cambodian workers.

He will also attend a breaking of fast hosted by Hun Sen.

286 Malaysians rescued from job scam

Malaysia’s ambassador to Cambodia, Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, said the cordial relations between the two countries had enabled the Malaysian embassy in Phnom Penh to rescue 286 Malaysians duped by employment scam syndicates.

“In 2022 alone, we saved 250 people through the good coordination between the Malaysian embassy and the Cambodian police,” he said.

There are about 5,000 Malaysians in Cambodia, most of them successful businessmen. About 400 Malaysian companies are operating in Cambodia, he said.
