PETALING JAYA:
Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung has demanded that the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) explain the conduct of its officers who were captured on camera roughing up an old man during an operation to capture stray dogs.

In a statement, Lee said his office issued a letter to the council after a video of the incident went viral.

“My office has demanded an explanation of the council’s SOPs for catching stray dogs.”

“This includes (the SOPs) for the conduct of officers involved (in the operation). I hope that a detailed investigation will be conducted by the council’s integrity unit,” he said, adding such an incident should not happen again.

In a video that went viral, an old man can be seen being roughed up by MBPJ’s enforcement team while he tries to protect his dogs from being captured.

An enforcement team member can be seen hitting him with an iron rod used to catch dogs.

The incident reportedly took place at Taman Kanagapuram, off Jalan Klang Lama, in Petaling Jaya, last night.

In a reply to New Straits Times, MBPJ said the council has initiated an investigation following the circulation of the video online.
